Procession Judging

By leightoncarnival, Jul 13 2019 08:00PM

The procession entries will be judged by an independent panel of four judges - the Town Mayor Cllr Bowater, Rotary President Andrew White, former Town Crier and Honorary Burgess Peter Hailes and proprietor of Constantines Salon (sponsor of the Carnival Court) Julien Constantine. Their decision is final, as in the procession rules.

Their brief is:

Judging:

Each procession entry should have a card indicating their entry number. These will match the judging sheets that will be provided.

Judges are asked to give each entrant marks, up to 10, for presentation and also for enthusiasm, so the maximum each judge can give each entrant is 20. There will also be a question asking if the entry is in line with the theme of Music Through the Ages. If they are not, still judge them as normal and the score will be adjusted later.

Entries will be judged whilst they are in Mentmore Road, in a static situation. This may make the judging of walking groups more difficult. Because if this, we will try to find a location on the route where Judges can have another look at the entries and review their scores if they want to.

Once the procession arrives at Parsons Close, the Judge's sheets are handed in to a Committee Officer who totals the scores to determine the winners of each section, the entry with the highest score for enthusiasm and the entry with the highest overall score. The winners are announced in the arena at 15.45 when the presentations are made. The individual scores are not announced.

A copy of the judging sheet issued to the judges is shown below.

Following the cancellation of Carnival due to the Covid pandemic, we created a separate Facebook page for the virtual Carnival Leighton-Linslade Virtual Carnival 2020.

Please vist this page to see the wonderful videos that made up the virtual arena, some from before lockdown, some during lockdown and some as we were slowly emerging from lockdown.

Below is a film of the virtual procession. Enlarge it to get the full benefit of the images (and the music)
